Palestine Music Expo (PMX 2018) Taking place next Month in Palestine! (11-13/4/2018)
15/3/2018, Ramallah, Palestine.
For the second year in a row, Palestinian musicians, activists and key figures from the worldwide music industry have come together to organize the 2nd Palestine Music Expo (PMX) – The most impactful music event in Palestine!
The Expo, aiming to highlight the best and brightest artists on Palestine’s vibrant music scene, will feature live showcases that will take place in one big venue in Ramallah: "Grand Park" Hotel, and will feature the best music acts in Palestine and key figures from the world-wide music industry. PMX 2018 has the wider aim of redressing the perception of the territory and raising awareness of its rich and diverse cultural heritage to allow its artists to establish themselves on the international music scene.
For this reason, the three-day expo will be aimed at promoters and press, as well as members of the public in both Palestine and the world wide music industry. Rather than a stationary festival-type event, the showcase will also take a form more similar to a mini tour, with participants taking in shows in Ramallah for 3 days, before exploring Bethlehem, Hebron, Jerusalem and refugee camps and getting the chance to meet some of the artists and learn about the conditions for performers in Palestine.
In addition to this, the international delegates (from Britain, Brazil, Canada, USA and more) will be hosting workshops for local artists and taking part in panels: all open to the public. The delegates include producers, agents, festival organizers and booking agents. Among those attending in last year’s workshops were Scott Cohen (founder of the Orchard- one of the biggest digital distributers in the world), Malcolm Haynes (co-founder of Glastonbury music festival), Rachel Willis (Manager of Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds). This year, PMX 2018 will even have more delegates (see list here).
PMX is the joint brainchild of Palestinian musicians and activists like Mahmood Jrere from the acclaimed rap group, DAM Abed Hathot, music producer and composer, and Rami Younis, journalist and activist, and Martin Goldschmidt, founder of UK record company Cooking Vinyl, all of whom decided to create the showcase to contribute to the visibility and representation of Palestinian music in worldwide music scene.
PMX 2018 partners include GIZ – The German Agency for International Cooperation, Bank Of Palestine, A. M. Qattan cultural foundation, Cooking Vinyl, Edward Said National Conservatory Of Music, PPAN, Greenbelt Festival, Gif7alak, Al Kamandjati, Sard, Sacem, philanthropist Mr. Ismat Ilam Deen, and a crowd funding campaign.
Among the bands taking part in the showcase are Trio Jubran and Tamer Nafar. Final line up will be published soon.
